Science Proves Immunocontraception Worthless
After a five-year study, Dr. Larry Katz, head of the Department of Animal Science at Rutgers University's Cook College, has condemned immunocontraception as "an absolutely absurd, ridiculous and biologically unworkable method of controlling deer." His study showed that, "deer herds are much too large and far-ranging to be reduced appreciably by immunocontraception." In the September issue of WLFA's Update, it was reported that New Jersey and New York might soon be experimenting with immunocontraception. Sportsmen in these states should contact your state assemblyman and senators via the Legislative Action Center on the WLFA website, www.wlfa.org, and tell them science has proven what sportsmen have known for a long time -immunocontraception is not a solution to controlling deer populations. PETA Preaches Anti-Fishing Message to Students
WLFA
Outside of two Missoula, Montana elementary schools, two PETA supporters, one dressed up as a fish, passed out stickers and paper binoculars "for looking, not hooking." Principals at both schools complained about the activities, but since the protestors were not on school grounds, they could not be forced to leave. The Montana Dept. of Fish, Wildlife and Parks manages the well received, "Hooked on Fishing, Not On Drugs" program in which young persons are encouraged to go fishing as an alternative to drugs. New Jersey Sportsmen To Loose Bear Season
America Outdoors
Animal rights groups put pressure on legislators in New Jersey and influenced Governor Christine Todd Whitman to ask the Fish and Game Council to suspend the necessary black bear hunt scheduled for this September. The council agreed to the postponement. Press releases from anti-groups indicate that they will push for passage of a ban on bear hunting and are now lobbying to put anti-hunters on the council. New Jersey sportsmen - You Are Under Attack! Contact your legislator today at 1-800-792-8630 or use the Legislative Action Center on the WLFA website, www.wlfa.org, to contact your representative. Tell them you support the bear hunt and oppose anti-hunters on the Fish and Game Council. Legislative Action Center (Guide to States): (posted September 21, 2000) |
